Holiday attractions and things to do
There is plenty to do in and around Stoke Gabriel. We are close to the holiday resorts of Torbay, Salcombe and Dartmouth,
while the hills are Dartmoor and the cities of Plymouth and Exeter are close by.
Watersports
The River Dart is at the bottom of the village. From here you can launch a boat or canoe easily and explore the river. You can also windsurf from Mill Point, which I do fairly regularly.
This works best on an incoming tide for a period 4-2 hours before high tide and on a westerly wind. You can go surfing at bigbury with
Discovery Surf. You can also surf in Torbay in an easterly. You can sail with
South Sands Sailing in Salcombe or take sailing or power boat courses at
Torbay Sea School in Torbay
. You can have a great time with
Canoe Adventures on the river Dart who do wonderful half day trips.
Boating
You can enjoy the perfect English river picnic on board
The Picnic Boat or enjoy the river cruise from Totnes to Dartmouth with
River Link.
Walking
South Devon offers some great walking opportunities. The
South West Coastal Path can be found just a few miles from our holiday
home and offers some fantastic coastal scenery. South Devon is an Area of Outstanding Natural Bueaty and many walks can be downloaded from the
South Devon AONB website.
Golf
In nearby Newton Abbot there is
Hele Park Golf Centre, a 9 hole golf course and driving range, ideal for a quick round, practice or for families who want to try golf for the first time.
